Biography


 

The Lyrical Tenor July Zuma was born and grew up in Durban, South Africa. Recently returned from South Africa were he was one of the soloists in an Opera Gala Evening hosted by Dante Alighieri Society in


collaboration with Kwa-Zulu Natal Philhamornic Orchestra at the


Durban City Hall in December 2018. Most recently, took on the role of Young Man in World's Premier Chamber Opera “ Romeo's Passion”, directed by Robert Lehmeier in September 2018. Was awarded a scholarship from the opera workshop of the "Festival of Young Voices" under the direction of Mrs. Verena Keller with concerts in Bern, Sigriswil, Basel and Zurich in October 2018.


 

He was invited as Guest Artist at the Warszawska Opera Kameralna's 28th Mozart Festival in July 2018. Just made his debut as Don Ottavio in


Vienna with “Wir sind Wien Festival” (Oper-rund-um) June 2018. He sang Pedrillo in the opera 'Abduction from the Seraglio' by W. A. Mozart at the Warszawska Opera Kameralna in April 2018, directed by Marcin Sompoliński, Director: Yuriy Aleksandrov.


 

In summer of 2017 he sang the part of the Pedrillo from Mozart's


"Abduction from the Seraglio" with the Kammerphilharmonie


Graubünden at the Schlossoper Haldenstein under the direction of


Anthony Pilavachi as a director and Philippe Bach as conductor. He was invited as a Tenor Soloist to the great annual "Starlight Classics" concert at the JCC in South Africa. Made his debut in the role of Count Almaviva in Rossini's "The Barber of Seville" in the production of the "Opera Vox Cultural Association" in Uster, Switzerland 2017. He also was a guest artist as Gastone in Verdi's "La Traviata" at the Monschau Festival 2016 of the Kammeroper Köln. 


 

He was also in Schubert's "Mass in B Major" and Mozart's "Regina coeli" in the St. Maria Rosenkranzkirche in Kassel as well as in a scenic performance of Handel's "Messiah" at the Durban Playhouse Theater in Durban under the direction of Ralph Lawson , He made his debut with the German Kammerphilharmonie Bremen in 2014 at the festival "Ein Sommer in Lesmona".


 

Since his studies the artist has been heard in the following operatic


parts: Don Basilio in Mozart's "Figaro's Wedding" in the Teatre Principal de Santanyi in Mallorca (2011), the Heger in Dvořák's "Rusalka" at the Kammeroper Schloss Rheinsberg (2011), Rinuccio in Puccini's "Gianni Schicchi" (2012) in the Auditorium of the Conservatori del Liceu in Barcelona, Ferrando in Mozart's "Così fan tutte" and Demetrius in Purcell's "Fairy Queen" at the Joseph Stone Auditorium in Cape Town


(2013).


 

July Zuma has already appeared at many prestigious venues such as the


Grand Theater Del Liceu Salodels Miralls (Barcelona, Spain), the


Kammersoper Schloss Rheinsberg (Rheinsberg, Germany), Artscape


Theater, Baxter Theater and Cape Town City Hall (Cape Town, South


Africa), the Sala Mozart Auditorio de Saragoza (Saragoza, Spain), the


Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church (Berlin, Germany), Durban City Hall


and the Playhouse Theater (Durban, South Africa).


 

In 2011 he was honored as the winner of the singing competition of the


Kammeroper Schloss Rheinsberg. Julio Amuz participated in numerous


singing master classes, including 2012 at Monserrat Caballé in


Saragoza, Spain. He received his diploma as an opera singer in Cape


Town in 2005, where he studied with Prof. Dr. Angelo Gobbato, the


head of the university's opera department. Julio Amuz continued his


postgraduate studies from 2010 - 2012 at the "Conservatori Superior de Música del Liceu" in Barcelona with Prof. Eduardo Grimenéz.


 

 

The tenor is one of the leading actors of the documentary film "Cape


of Good Voices" by the award-winning director Ralf Pleger.
